CASPIAN DELIVERS CARRIER-CLASS SUPPORT SERVICES ON THE JUNIPER AND EXTREME NETWORKS PLATFORM TO MTN CAMEROON IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ERICSSON CAMEROON

November 15, 2006 - Lagos, Nigeria: Caspian Services Ltd, a leading Systems Integrator and provider of carrier-class/enterprise network support services recently assisted MTN Cameroon (MTNC) in correcting a few problems on their Juniper equipment based carrier network.
MTNC is part of the MTN Group and provides mobile telephony services to over 54% of the mobile market in Cameroon which represents over one million subscribers.
MTN Cameroon has invested heavily in Juniper carrier-class routers and Extreme Networks carrier-class switches in order to deliver superior mobile telephony and value added services to its subscribers spread across Cameroon. These routers, mostly Juniper M7i, are distributed across MTNC switch locations.

The Challenge
Two Juniper M7i routers, each in a different site and each interfacing with an Extreme Summit Layer-3 switch in a redundant configuration, suddenly malfunctioned and stopped conveying mobile traffic. Expectedly, this sudden downtime could translate into revenue loss for MTN should the redundant routers also malfunction. On escalating to Ericsson, they in turn
immediately contacted Caspian Services to seek urgent support from Caspian’s pool of Juniper and Extreme Networks certified engineers.

The Solution and Result.
As is customary with Caspian’s support operations, an engineer was immediately deployed to Cameroon and after systematic troubleshooting, replacement of Routing Engine Board (RE), E1 Physical Interface Card (PIC) and reconfiguration, both routers were restored to normal operations to the delight of all stakeholders (Caspian, Ericsson and most
importantly, MTNC).
